Indian Camp- Coming of Age
The short story Indian Camp is about a boy and his father going to an indian camp to deliver a baby. The little boy Nick is growing up and this story shows examples of coming of age. The first example is when he is included in the trip as an intern for his dad. It shows that he is grown up enough to go to his fathers work and help him. It also shows that his dad trusts him and he thinks that he is responsible enough to come. Another example is when his dad tells him to hold the basin for him during the surgery. While the women is in labor, his dad trusts him enough to be apart of the surgical process. Even though his dad didn't want him to see it, Nick also witnessed his father killing the baby's dad. His dad tried to get him out of the room but it was too late, Nick already saw his dad kill the man. The last and most important example is on the way back from the indian camp, he is ridding in the stern while his dad was paddleing home. On the way to the camp, his dad rode in the stern and the indian paddled. It also shoes that Nick is strong and it is an important step in becoming a man. The story Indian Camp showed a lot of examples of coming of age and how the little boy is growing up.
