The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner is by Randall Jurrell (1914-1965). I believe this poem is about war. When I googled The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner i found out that it has to do with a plane. The poem reads " from my mother's sleep i feel into the States, and i hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze, Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life, I woke to black flack and the nightmare fighters. When i died they washed out of the turret hose. " The first part, "from my mother's sleep i feel into the States, and i hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze" it means that the pilot is in the same position that a baby would be when in the the mother's stomach. " Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life, i think that means that he is not on the ground, he is flying the plane and people start shooting at him and that he is loosing his life, or he is going to die. "i woke to black flack and the nightmare fighters. When i died they washed me out of the turret with a hose," I believe this means that his worst nightmare is coming true, hes going to die, and that the hose is actually a steam hose.
