The poem you fit into me by Margaret Atwood is an excellent poem. The speaker of the poem is a girl falling in love. The poem reads, "you fit into me like a hook into an eye". When reading this I first thought a sharp hook into an eye, but once I thought about it I realized that she meant the hook that clasps go on. Meaning two things that fit together perfectly and when fastened they bind something tightly and strongly. This could symbolize two hearts connecting. This imagery when applied to a human relationship suggests a happy, strong relationship between two people. The simile "like a hook into an open eye" gives away the meaning of the last stanza in the poem.
The last stanza of the poem changes the tone. The tone changes to dangerous or violent. The last stanza reads, "a fish hook, an open eye", i think this means that they weren't meant to be and that the situation becomes dangerous now. The last part of the poem creates a unwanted, strong, and unpleasing surprise. The idea or theme of this poem is love. I enjoyed this poem very much, I think Margaret Atwood is very good at writing poetry.
